*SOLD OUT* JFC 16-Year [Batch 004] Kentucky Straight Blended Whisky

*SOLD OUT* JFC 16-Year [Batch 004] Kentucky Straight Blended Whisky

Full-flavored to the max with a long, pleasure-seeking finish, this uber-exclusive batch of bourbon showcases how higher proof can supercharge the complexity and extend an already ridiculously long silky, smooth finish. Made from the same Kentucky Straight Whisky as Batch 003, aged in a selection of Cognac barriques (to provide complexity and depth), port barrels (to elevate it’s sweet and nutty character), American oak (to elevate its herbaceous character) and Caldwell Cooperage Haute Futaie French oak barrels (to bring the whole fabulous drink to another level completely).

The final blend was finished to the exacting specifications of Napa Valley’s own maverick Vintner, John F. Caldwell, in partnership with Master Cooper, Ramiro Herrera (one of less than three dozen people in the world to hold the title), and kept at 99 proof to ensure maximum flavor velocity for the seasoned whisky lover.

Finished: An additional 50 months in a head-spinning combination of master-crafted 225L American oak and Haute Futaie French oak barrels, and a few special 600L barrels that Ramiro personally sourced from France.

Toast: Various medium, medium-plus and medium-long

Proof: 99

Produced: Only 265 bottles for the world to share.

A fantastic limited edition Bourbon for my collection!

I think of myself as someone who appreciates great bourbon. While there are people with many more bottles in their collection, my bar has 300+ individual labels on it (all opened BTW). When I was introduced to the JFC 16 year, I was very intrigued. I know JFC from the wine side, I have a number of bottles, but I didn't know his passion for bourbon and whiskey. Reading about the way JFC sources great Kentucky product and then finds unique ways to finish them in some of his wine barrels got my attention. While digging, I also noticed that he has the only Master Cooper in the US (there are only 34 in the world according to the article) who makes those barrels. Once I had a chance to taste the 16 year I was very impressed. I knew the flavor would be rich and deep from the age statement and beautiful color, but what I actually found was a bourbon that at 99 proof felt like some of my higher proofs that drink really smooth. The packaging is gorgeous and looks good on my bar and always gets friends asking about it. As far as the price, it's not an everyday buy for me but I have paid the same amount on the secondary market for hard to get bottles with big distillery names on them that have less age and depth of flavor. Plus I know that it's a bottle that won't be on everyone's bar because of the limited amounts available. This bottle fits so well in my collection and I'm proud to pour it for friends who know their whisky. I can't wait for the next big offering JFC produces.
